(TS) – According to a new report Seagate Technology is working on its first 3TB hard drive which will be part of the enterprise-focused Constellation ES family and have a SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) 6.0 Gbps connection interface.
Seagate’s 3TB 3.5-inch drive is likely to work at 7200 RPM (rotations per minute) and may get some competition from Western Digital who’s also planning to deliver 3TB this year, although it’s not certain if it will release a desktop HDD first or go for the enterprise segment. Either way, 3TB is coming and that will probably mean lower prices for the 2TB models, some of which have pretty steep prices today.
