(TS) – Buffalo has launched the worlds first 12x Blu-ray burner, which supports USB 3.0, the Buffalo BR-X1216U3. The Buffalo BR-X1216U3 12x USB 3.0 Blue-ray Burner is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, which is quite handy at the moment as there aren’t any PCs out yet with USB 3.0.

The BR-X1216U3 is backward compatible with USB 2.0 but will burn your Blu-rays with “just” 7x speed in that case. You can only use it with a Windows machine (XP/Vista/7).
Supported recording speed are as follows:
- BD-R i BD-R DL 12X
- BD-RE SL/DL 2X
- DVD+/-R 16X
- DVD+/-R DL 8X
- DVD+RW 8X
- DVD-R 6X
- DVD-RAM 5X
The writer comes bundled with Cyberlink Power Director. Device is already available in Japan with a price around $450.
