(TS) – Razer has unveiled the 2013 models of its ongoing Blade series of high-performance gaming laptops. In addition to upgrading and renaming the existing 17-inch model to the “Razer Blade Pro,” the peripheral/PC manufacturer has also introduced a new 14-inch variant. Pre-orders for both rigs begin on June 3.

Razer reveals the Blade Pro and 14-inch Blade gaming laptops

Weighing 4.1 pounds and measuring 13.6 x 9.3 x 0.66-inches, the 14-inch Blade comfortably claims the title of the world’s thinnest gaming notebook. But the Blade is more than a svelte chassis, packing one of Intel’s upcoming fourth-generation Haswell processors and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M GPU with 2GB of VRAM — essentially cramming a bucking bronco into a matchbox. Yet, the company claims that the Blade will last up to 6 hours on a charge.

Razer reveals the Blade Pro and 14-inch Blade gaming laptops

The 17-inch Blade Pro also has some enviable dimensions, at 6.5 pounds and 16.8 x 10.9 x 0.88-inches. Like the Blade, the Blade Pro will sport a fourth-generation Intel Haswell chip and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M GPU. The Blade Pro will also feature a 1080p display while the Blade will have a 1600 x 900 panel. Both notebooks will offer 8GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD and run Windows 8. Gamers who need more storage can upgrade to a 256GB or 512GB SSD for either system.

Razer reveals the Blade Pro and 14-inch Blade gaming laptops

Both systems feature a backlit keyboard with anti-ghosting capabilities. As with the previous generation of its gaming notebook, the Blade Pro will have an LCD trackpad to the right of the keyboard, which will feature Razer’s innovative SwitchBlade UI and 10 dynamic adaptive tactile keys. The 14-inch Blade will sport a more traditional touchpad beneath the keyboard.

Razer reveals the Blade Pro and 14-inch Blade gaming laptops

Razer has sweetened the pot for creative professionals, adding Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier Pro, GIMP and Maya free of charge. The Blade and the Blade Pro will be available for pre-order on June 3rd starting at $1,799 and $2,299 respectively.

(TS) – Intel’s Architecture Group vice president Rani Borkar said earlier today laptops would be able to squeeze 50 percent more battery while running if they use the company’s Haswell chip, and today, we’re hearing of one of the first computers to incorporate Intel’s new chip.

New Asus VivoBook V551 Ultrabook powered by an Intel Haswell CPU

The Asus VivoBook V551 is an ultrabook with a 15.6 inch display and an Intel Core i7-4500U Haswell chip and an NVIDIA graphics card. It’s expected to sell for around $1000, and several retailers are already taking orders. Notebook Italia reports that in Europe the same laptop is expected to be called the VivoBook S551.

Detailed specs include NVIDA GeForce GT740M graphics, 8GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive, and 24GB solid state cache disk. The notebook measures just 0.83 inches thick, but it packs a DVD burner, as well as WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI, 3 USB ports (including 1 USB 3.0 port), and a 65 Whr battery.

New Asus VivoBook V551 Ultrabook powered by an Intel Haswell CPU

It also features a touchscreen display. Unfortunately, it’s a 1366 x 768 pixel screen, which seems kind of out-of-step with what’s otherwise a pretty high-end laptop.

While the Asus VivoBook V551 is a reasonably thin laptop, it’s not particularly light. It weighs about 5.3 pounds, which isn’t surprising given the large screen, disc drive, and other components.

(TS) – Samsung has detailed the display technology that the South Korean company will have on show at the Society for Information Display’s Display Week 2013, which is set to kick off tomorrow and run through to 23 May.

Samsung’s New 13-Inch Display Has a Crazy 3,200 x 1,800 Pixel Resolution

Among the tech being demonstrated is a 13.3-inch WQXGA+ LCD display for notebooks; which has a resolution of 3,200 x 1,800 that outdoes Apple’s current Retina displays. Samsung will also have a 10-inch LCD display for tablets at the event with a Retina-matching 2,560 x 1,600 resolution.

Samsung’s New 13-Inch Display Has a Crazy 3,200 x 1,800 Pixel Resolution

Samsung claims that not only can it make LCD displays of such high resolution but they both offer 30 percent lower energy usage compared to current products ” … by decreasing the number of driver circuits and increasing the efficiency of the LED BLU.” Naturally, that means battery life for notebooks and tablets should be extended with the use of these displays.

Samsung’s New 13-Inch Display Has a Crazy 3,200 x 1,800 Pixel Resolution

Unfortunately, there’s no word when Samsung will actually mass produce these displays in their future PC products. Hopefully, they will be made available sooner rather than later.

Sony Vaio Fit notebook announced, launch this month

Noteworthy features of the VAIO Fit laptops include 1600×900 HD+ LCDs on the 14″ model and 1080p displays on the 15.6″ models, with both sizes offering optional capacitive touchscreens.
As with other recent announcements, the timing is enough to let you know that the models being discussed today are using Ivy Bridge (3rd Generation Intel Core processors), but we may see updates after the Haswell launch. Processor support tops out at Core i7 (presumably dual-core), with Core i3 and i5 also available. NVIDIA Graphics will also be an option, though the specific GPUs aren’t listed.

Sony Vaio Fit notebook announced, launch this month

The Fit 14 and 15 will be available in mid-May and will start at $649 and $699 respectively. The Fit 14E and 15E are apparently the lower-spec models and will launch at prices of $549 and $579.

(TS) – Relatively few people ever need to set up a server out of doors. For those who do, Getac’s X500 offers an off-the-shelf solution. The briefcase-sized Getac X500 rugged mobile server is designed for outdoor use, and is built to handle drops, shocks, vibration, liquid spills and dust (to MIL-STD 810G, IP65 and MIL-STD-461F). This is achieved in part through the use of a magnesium alloy chassis and sealed doors and ports.

Getac X500 Server Rugged Mobile Server Notebook runs Windows Server 2012

The X500 is a briefcase-sized system that Getac says can be deloyed virtually anywhere and anytime, whether you’re chasing tornados and need to crunch wind data on the spot or doing other in-the-field work.

A quick look at the specs reveals a 15.6-inch display that’s viewable in sunlight, Intel Core i7 820QM processor, 16GB of RAM, GeForce GT 330M graphics, 500GB SATA storage, dual GbE LAN ports, three USB 2.0 ports, a single USB/eSATA combo port, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and various other odds and ends.

Getac X500 Server Rugged Mobile Server Notebook runs Windows Server 2012

There’s also a RAID controller board that supports up to five five shock-protected drives that can be accessed or swapped through one of two quick-access doors. Beyond the hardware, this thing is certified to military specifications for operation in extreme conditions, Getac says.

Getac X500 Server Rugged Mobile Server Notebook runs Windows Server 2012

No word on price, though you can request a quote from Getac and order a system immediate.

(TS) – Lenovo has this week unveiled a new addition to their range of Lenovo ThinkPad’s with the launch of the new Lenovo Touchscreen ThinkPad S431.

Here with the ThinkPad S431, a 14-inch LCD display also fits inside a 13-inch frame and a bit of touchscreen technology is employed to control Windows 8.

Lenovo reveals Windows 8 ThinkPad S431 touchscreen laptop

This machine works with a 180-degree open angle on its display, allowing users to work with the keyboard and/or the touchscreen and Windows 8 in a variety of ways. This notebook works with 3rd generation Intel Core processor options and up to 8GB of memory. Also under the hood users will be able to keep 500GB of files, this allowing for students and entertainment users to store media to their content.

Lenovo reveals Windows 8 ThinkPad S431 touchscreen laptop

Lenovo appears to be moving toward a cross between small business users and budget thinkers this week with the ThinkPad S431. This release marks the first time that a Lenovo ThinkPad notebook is offered at a price point under a thousand dollars. Starting on the 21st of May, this machine will also be the first ThinkPad to be offered under nine hundred dollars and eight hundred dollars as well, coming in at a cool six hundred and ninty-nine dollars MSRP.

Lenovo reveals Windows 8 ThinkPad S431 touchscreen laptop

This machine will join its cousins in the ThinkPad line revealed earlier this year at CES and between then and the release of Windows 8. Have a peek at the timeline below to see additional insight on the Lenovo path from here into the future. Things are getting bendy, touchy, and ready for Windows 8, that’s for certain.
