(TS) – While Firefox 3.6 slipped into 2010, the first release candidate of Firefox for Maemo (Fennec) made its debut just at the end of 2009, signaling that Mozilla will be making a big push into the mobile browser market this year. For now though, we’ve got a release that works on devices running the Maemo platform (it’s optimized for Nokia’s N900), is based on the same engine as Firefox 3.6 and includes features like:
- Tabbed browsing
- The Awesome Bar, which searches your history, bookmarks and tags to go to your favorite sites instantly
- Touch-oriented user interface
- Location-aware browsing
- The ability to share your Firefox preferences, history, and bookmarks between your desktop and mobile
- Add-ons
- Password manager
- Pop-up blocker
- Download manager
- Spell checker
- Automated update
- Support for 15 languages
To try Firefox for Maemo RC1 just visit Firefox.com/m from your mobile and get downloading. Developers can also get the Release Candidate for the desktop in Windows, Mac OS X and Linux flavors.
