()Intel, the world’s biggest CPU manufacturer, is planning to introduce some 17 new chips at CES 2010 so it decided to not wait for January to launch its second Atom platform, codenamed Pine Trail. Unlike its predecessor, this new offer makes use not of three but two chips, with the Atom CPU now integrating everything from the memory controller to the graphics core.

Pine Trail makes use of the fresh NM10 chipset and debuts with three Atom CPUs, the netbook-aimed N450 (single-core), and the nettop-oriented D410 (single-core) and D510 (dual-core). All three processors are manufactured on 45nm technology and are clocked at 1.66 GHz. Paired up with the NM10, the N450, D410 and D510 have a TDP of 7W, 12W and 15W, respectively. According to Intel, the PT-based netbook platform features a 20% improvement in average power.

“The Intel Atom processor has fueled an entirely new category of computing over the last year and a half and we think the growth will continue for devices like netbooks and entry-level PCs built around basic computing and Internet usage models,” said Mooly Eden, Intel corporate vice president and general manager of Intel’s PC Client Group. “We’re excited to be delivering the next-generation Atom platform and working across the industry as we head into a second phase of growth, powering innovative new system designs with better performance, smaller footprints and better battery life.”
