(TS) – LG announced the Optimus F5 smartphone earlier in the month during Mobile World Congress and as of today it looks like we have some details in terms of an upcoming release. That release is with Verizon Wireless and it is expected that the Optimus F5 will arrive as the LG Lucid 2. The original Lucid (seen below) was sporting the model number of VS840 and this follow-up looks to be the VS870.
Perhaps more important here, the release of the Lucid 2 will bring another mid-level device to the Verizon Wireless lineup. We have yet to see any pricing details, however speculation suggests that the Lucid 2 should be available within the month. Time will tell just how accurate that timeline will be. For now, lets discuss those specs.
As far as the earlier Lucid version is concerned, the device, per the Examiner, was “hard to beat the Lucid when looking at the cost of most other smart phones with similar functionality. The five-ounce Lucid VS840 comes with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from an Android 2.3 4G phone. Its 4G LTE service from Verizon rocks, and I easily connected it to my home WiFi as well.”
The Optimus F5, however, comes with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and could be categorized as a mid-range 4G phone. The device sports a 4.3-inch IPS touch-screen with a display resolution of 960 x 540 and a PPI of 256. Just for the sake of comparison, the new HTC One arrived with a PPI of 468, and so it could be made clear that the F5 falls into the category of a mid-range smartphone.
The Optimus F5 has processing power that comes from its dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of on-board memory. There is also the option to introduce additional 32GB of storage with a microSD slot.
The device has a primary five-megapixel camera, and one of the key features of the F5 is its Qslide function. Qslide has been introduced to make it easy for users to carry out cross-tasking with multiple Apps and to control window size, location and transparency.
