(TS) – Also present at CTIA Wireless, South Korean electronics mammoth Samsung has unveiled a new high-end smartphone powered by Android 2.1. Dubbed Galaxy S (GT-I9000), Samsung’s phone is a quad-band 2.5G, tri-band 3G candybar that measures 64.2 x 122.4 x 9.9 mm, weights 118g, and packs a 4-inch (800×480) Super AMOLED touchscreen, a 5 megapixel camera that can do 720p @ 30 fps video recording, a 1GHz Snapdragon chipset, 8GB or 16GB of built-in storage and a microSDHC slot.
“The Android-powered Galaxy S will set a new standard for smart phones,” said JK Shin, president and head of Mobile Communications Business. “The Galaxy S is the perfect device for people in all corners of the world who want that extra edge; to be more effective, productive, better connected, and in tune with their smart life – both personal and professional – all in a very easy and simple way.”
The Galaxy S includes GPS, an accelerometer, a digital compass, USB 2.0, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, and a 1500mAh battery. According to Samsung, the smartphone will become available in Europe, North America, Latin America, Australia, and Asia “soon”.
