(TS) – We’ve been waiting a long time to see an Android devices with the quad-core Kal-El Tegra 3 processor. ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih the Chinese company’s next generation of Transformer tablet during an interview with Walt Mossberg at AllThingsD’s AsiaD event today. The next-generation Asus Eee Pad Transformer tablet will add the word “Prime” to its ending instead of the presumed digit “2″. With the new Transformer Prime Asus plans to introduced their first NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core Android tablet to the world.

Asus released Eee Pad Transformer Prime, quad-core Tegra 3 powered

The Transformer Prime features the same 10.1-inch, WXGA (1280 x 800 pixel) screen resolution as the original, but it measures a scant 8.3mm (0.33in) thick. The Prime sports USB and mini-HDMI ports, an SD memory card slot, and a 14.5 hour battery. Like the original Transformer, the Prime can be docked in a keyboard that makes it look like a full laptop. It was not clear if the 14.5-hour battery life was dependent on being docked in the keyboard or not.

Asus released Eee Pad Transformer Prime, quad-core Tegra 3 powered

Currently, there is no word on which version of Android OS, the tablet will be running on. Hopefully it will be Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. If not it can be upgrade to same in the coming year.

This latest news pretty much lets us know it’s due for release in the immediate future and also gives us the opportunity to confirm some specs.

The 12.1-inch sized netbook swaggers the latest based off Intel’s Cedar Trail platform D2700 CPU, 4 GBs of DDR3 RAM, dyed-in-the-wool AMD Radeon 6470M graphics, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, a few USB 3.0 ports, HDMI output with a card reader and up to 500GB automatic HDD (allegedly a 5400RPM) with a 1366 x 768 LED-backlit display.
