(TS) – Toshiba Storage Device Division has today revealed its intention to introduce a new line of enterprise hard drives that, one made up of 2.5-inch HDDs with a SAS 2.0 (6.0 Gbps) connection interface that come mounted in a 3.5-inch bracket for better compatibility with a wide range of servers.
Toshiba’s ‘enclosed’ drives come in 300GB, 450GB and 600GB capacities, and have a 16MB buffer, an operating speed of 10,025 RPM (rotations per minute), a maximum data transfer rate of 216 MB/s, and a sound output of 2.9 Bels (when idle).
“Making it easier to migrate from 3.5-inch to 2.5-inch HDDs offers organizations greater opportunities to achieve a more efficient and productive IT environment,” said Joel Hagberg, vice president of enterprise marketing at Toshiba Storage Device Division. “Toshiba has applied its hard disk drive engineering expertise to develop the MBF2xxLRC, demonstrating our commitment to provide customers with the opportunity to benefit from small form factor HDDs.”
The MBF2xxLRC HDDs will start shipping to OEMs and distributors next month.
